E-mail Print

CANADIANS & AUSSIES CONDUCTS, DOCUMENT TRAINING SESSIONS AT MALE’ MALDIVESDepartment of Immigration and Emigration had conducted a series of fraudulent document training programs with some of their foreign partners starting from 30 of Sep to 03 of Dec 2009.

The training sessions were lectured by first secretary of Canadian Immigration in Colombo Mr. James Martin (Migration Integrity Officer) and first secretary of Australian Immigration in Colombo Mr. Nigel Muir (Principle Migration Officer). Both these gentleman’s are professionals in their field. The training programs were carried out at the Island Aviation training facility at Male’ International airport.

These basic fraudulent document classes were mainly targeted to the newly recruited staffs of Immigration but they were joined by staffs from Island Aviation and Cyprea Maldives. A more advanced training program was also conducted for the senior staffs of Immigration.

The training programs were very fruitful and all the participants enjoyed the classes since most cases were discussed with real examples. We hope to see the end results of these trainings in the very near future.

The Controller of Immigration and Emigration Mr. Ilyas Hussain has always put great emphasis in training staffs. He believed that thriving excellence service could only be achieved with a well trained team of professionals.

First of all we would like to thank the Controller of Immigration and Emigration Mr. Ilyas Hussain for facilitating this training program. We would also like give a very special thanks to Mr. James martin and Mr. Nigel Muir for sparing their valuable time to share their expertise with us. We would also like to thank Island Aviation and all those who were involved in the program, especially Miss. Mariyam Waheedha for facilitating the training room to conduct the sessions.

It was a very successful program and the success of the program greatly reflects the combined effort put by the all participants and everyone involved.

Travel Tips

It is always a good idea to have a few passports photos with you. You never know when you will need them.

Leave a copy of your itinerary and a photocopy of your passport at home or with your family, to let them know your travel plan. It would be better, if the hotels you are going to stay are also known.

One of the best ways to stay in contact with the people at home, while you are traveling, is to have a web based email. Something like hotmail or avasmail. If you do not have a web based email account, you can setup an email account for free from these two sites.

If you loose your passport while abroad, do not start making unnecessary calls home. As this mishap could prolong your stay and you need to save as much as you can. Follow the steps below:

    * Go to the nearest police station and report the incident, and get a police report.
    * Write the name of the hotel, phone number, fax number, room number, your national identity card number (or passport number) on a piece of paper
    * Now call home and get your most reliable person on the phone
    * Give all these details you wrote down to this person and get his/hers identity card number and full name.
    * Ask this person to contact the Immigration on your behalf
    * Fax a letter (with the police report) to the immigration explaining the situation and giving details of your contact person (make sure you write his/hers identity card number).Fax number is (960) 320011 (Head Office) and (960) 320451 (Airport)
