The Visa Integrity workshop - Bali Process, was held from 07th to 09th December 2010 at Sheraton Resort & Spa. This 3 day symposium was inaugurated by Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Mohamed Shihab, and was accompanied by Minister of State for Home Affairs Mr. Ahmed Adil and the Australian High Commissioner her Excellency Ms. Kathy Klugmen and the Controller of Immigration and Emigration Sheikh Ilyas Hussain Ibrahim.
On his brief speech Minister Shihab welcomed and thanked the Australian government and IOM for choosing Maldives to co-host this event. Also he stressed on the vital role that Bali Process is playing in contributing to combat human trafficking and other related transnational organized crimes. Furthermore he highlighted on the illegal movement by maritime specifically about (drifted boats) the Somalia issues that were recently noted. At last but not the least, he thanked the Australian government for their continuous support and assistance they are providing in capacity building.
Each member country got the opportunity to present to the group on their own visa management processes and activities.
This workshop was no different and seeks to bring together Bali Process countries with a view to improving visa management practices across the board by working together.
