The meeting was organized by the government of japan and participants from Maldives were zinmaadharu veriyaa Mr. Hamid Fathuhulla and Chief immigration Officer Mr. Hassan Rifaee bushry. Total 22 participants from 11 countries are taking part in this meeting. (Brunei, Republic of china, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Maldives, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Japan)The aim of this meeting was to understand the difficulties faced in issuing ePassports and to overcome the risk of introducing ePassports, procedures for issuing ePassports, amendments of the laws, protection of personal information and the advantages of second biometrics.
It is a pride to the Department of Immigration and Emigration of the Republic of Maldives to be one of the 10 countries to introduced ePassports with fingerprints. As Maldives has introduced 2nd generation ePassports with fingerprints stored on chip and database it is understood that these could be read by other concerned authorities and the immigration Department has an open policy to read data on IC for other authorities / states.
