Issuing permits and visas for foreigners working and residing in the Maldives has long been a key service provided by Maldives Immigration. Over the decades, this system has continuously evolved to enhance efficiency and accessibility. In line with the visionary initiative “Maldives 2.0” established by His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Republic of Maldives, the e-Visa service has now been officially launched, marking a historic milestone in the digital transformation of public services. The inauguration ceremony was officiated by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Prior to this transformation, visa applications were submitted through printed paper forms. Although later digitalized to an online platform, applicants were still required to make appointments, visit the Immigration office in person, and submit their passports for processing. This created considerable inconvenience for companies and individuals, particularly those residing outside Malé.
The “Maldives 2.0” initiative envisions a digitally empowered nation, ensuring that government services reach every island and every citizen efficiently and reliably. It aims to modernize service-delivery systems, strengthen governance, and drive economic progress. Within this framework, the e-Visa system and the Maldives Immigration mobile application, both designed and developed by the dedicated officers of Immigration, mark a transformative step forward. This milestone will be remembered as a proud chapter in the institution’s history.
With the introduction of the e-Visa service, previous challenges faced by applicants have been effectively resolved. Visa applications can now be submitted seamlessly through a unified digital platform. Once approved, applicants can download their e-Visa online, complete with a unique QR code to verify authenticity. These services will be available to the public starting 23 November 2025.
Additionally, foreign nationals holding valid visas will be able to view their e-Visa details directly through the Maldives Immigration mobile application. Future integrations will continue to expand the scope of digital visa services. With this change, the long standing requirement to submit physical passports for visa stamping has been eliminated, making it possible for users to apply for and receive visas seamlessly, from anywhere at any time.
